Venmar CES is the only brand in the commercial HVAC industry that has all of their air-to-air energy recovery equipment and components certified by AHRI to AHRI Standard 1060, including enthalpy wheels, fixed plate exchangers and heat pipes. AHRI Certified is the trusted mark of performance assurance for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and commercial refrigeration equipment. Products earning the mark undergo rigorous, independent annual evaluation to ensure that they perform according to the manufacturers’ published claims. Certifying HVACR equipment and component performance allows consumers to compare products based on independently verified performance ratings.
In order to adhere to any one of the numerous new (and extremely stringent) energy standards, codes or guidelines, certified performance data that you receive from the manufacturer is expected to be accurate. Particularly with requirements that call for ongoing monitoring and maintenance in order to maintain building certifications and classifications.
For example, certified performance data for the air-to-air energy recovery device ensures that the equipment will comply with ASHRAE Standard 90.1 (i.e. fan power limitations and the pressure drop through the device, minimum energy performance requirements and total effectiveness values and values for the Outdoor Air Correction Factor) and ASHRAE Standard 62.1 (i.e. allowable recirculation limits regarding classes of air and the Exhaust Air Transfer Ratio (EATR) of the device).
To ensure that you get this performance, it is important to not accept products from manufacturers that are not willing to have their unit performance tested and certified by an independent company.
The Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) has the HVAC industry’s only independent certification program for commercial energy recovery ventilation equipment in North America—the AHRI Standard 1060 Certification Program. Through tests in an independent laboratory, AHRI certifies the performance of heat pipes, plates and rotary wheel exchangers. Specifying and purchasing AHRI certified products helps protect consumers; expected performance is delivered performance.
The AHRI Certification Program is open to all manufacturers. It is operated by an organization that meets recognized operational standards providing independence and review. The program is governed by operating rules that help ensure fairness and neutrality.
When a manufacturer participates in the program, the manufacturer’s published catalogue data is verified through physical testing of the exchangers performed by a completely independent testing organization. Accepting products that have been “self-certified” by the manufacturer does not provide the same level of assurance to consumers as accepting products from manufacturers that participate in the AHRI Certification Program.
